Buy Now buttons, checkout and other Shopify limitations

Some limitations come from how Shopify works and apply to all gift apps.

Buy Now and express checkout buttons

Buy it now, Shop Pay, Buy with Shop, Quick buy and other express checkout buttons skip the cart, so no gift can be added. During a gift offer, consider turning these buttons off (usually in your theme editor), or ask customers to use Add to cart.

The checkout page

Apps can't add or remove products, or show popups, on Shopify's checkout page. The gift is added in the cart before checkout.

If a customer enters a discount code at checkout that brings the cart below the offer's minimum, the gift discount is removed. See How is the cart value for a gift offer calculated?

Shopify's limit of 25 automatic discounts

Shopify allows 25 automatic discounts per store. The app uses one automatic discount for all your offers ("Apphero Free Gift" in Shopify Admin > Discounts). If your store already has 25, delete one, then open your offer and click Save (no changes needed) so the app creates its discount.

Other limits

• Gift offers work in your Online Store. Shopify POS, the Shop app and mobile apps built on Shopify's APIs aren't supported.
• Customer tags and segments only work for logged-in customers.
• Gifts can't be targeted by payment method or shipping method.
